Youth Take the Lead in Peace Dialogue and Leadership on Day Four of Seven Days of Service

The Seven Days of Service campaign continued with a strong message of unity and dialogue as the spotlight shifted to Peace and Conflict Prevention on Day Four. The activities, hosted at Kitala Secondary School along Entebbe Road, were led by the Rotary Club of Garuga and the Rotary Club of Lungujja, with support from partnering clubs.

The day’s program centered on two key highlights: a Youth Peace Dialogue and the installation of the Interact Club of Kitala Secondary School, a milestone moment that marked the school’s formal entry into the Rotary family.

The Youth Peace Dialogue brought together students, teachers, and Rotarians in an open forum designed to empower young people as agents of peace in their communities. The session tackled topics such as peaceful conflict resolution, communication skills, civic responsibility, and the role of youth in fostering inclusive societies. Facilitators created a safe space for students to express concerns, share experiences, and propose solutions to everyday conflicts they face in school and at home.

One of the students noted, “We’ve always wanted a space to speak, and today we were heard. I now know that peace starts with me.”

The session emphasized the Rotary belief that lasting peace is built from the ground up, and that when young people are equipped with knowledge and platforms to lead, they become powerful changemakers.

The second part of the program featured the installation of the 2nd President of the Interact Club of Kitala Secondary School. The school’s newly elected student leaders were installed and presented with tools t support them this Rotary year. The excitement in the air was palpable as students pledged to uphold Rotary’s values of service, integrity, and leadership.

Interact—Rotary’s program for youth aged 12–18—gives students a chance to develop leadership skills while engaging in meaningful community service. The new club at Kitala is expected to champion peace, sanitation, literacy, and other initiatives within the school and the surrounding community.

This activity was supported by several partnering clubs, including the Rotary Clubs of Bwebajja, Garuga, Muyenga Tankhill, Seguku, Bwerenga, Kansanga, Lungujja, and Entebbe Base, as well as the Rotaract Clubs of Bunga, Bwebajja, Bwerenga, Victoria University, Kyengera, Muyenga Tankhill, and Kampala North.

Garuga Join “Seven Days of Service” with Lifesaving Literacy and Learning at Bugiri

The Rotary year began with purpose, energy, and impact as the Rotary Club of Garuga and 14 other Rotary and Rotaract partners launched Day One of the much-anticipated Seven Days of Service initiative at Bugiri Public Primary School.

With a focus on Basic Education and Literacy, the team donated a wide range of scholastic materials, including school bags, exercise books, mathematical sets, pens, pencils, and rulers, reaching over 150 children in need. The bright smiles and excited cheers of learners receiving these materials were a powerful reminder of Rotary’s mission: creating lasting change in communities worldwide.

But the day didn’t stop there.

Recognizing the challenges faced by adolescent girls in managing their menstrual health, the clubs held an engaging session on menstrual hygiene education, equipping girls with knowledge and confidence while also encouraging boys to be understanding and supportive peers. Thanks to a generous donation from AFRIpads, over 100 reusable sanitary pads were distributed, ensuring that no girl misses school because of her period.

“It was more than giving supplies—it was about restoring dignity, opening minds, and lighting the path for a better tomorrow,” said one of the volunteers at the event.
